American Wonder Porcelain welcomed Tennessee State Senator Mark Pody at two Town Hall meetings on Tuesday, September 11th. Mark Pody, who represents the 17th district which includes Wilson County and the City of Lebanon, where the American Wonder Porcelain factory and corporate office is located, spoke to attending employees about his background, his role in representing the district and his plans for the future. His message of representing all constituents and his request to reach out to his office with any issues he may be able to assist with was appreciated!
American Wonder Porcelain employees and friends participated in the 2018 Cumberland River Dragon Festival in downtown Nashville on Saturday, September 8th. The festival, benefitting the Cumberland River Compact, an organization dedicated to enhancing the health and enjoyment of the Cumberland River and its tributaries, included a dragon boat race. Employees and friends competed in the race and although they did not win, had a fantastic time!

In 1932, Syverson Tile & Stone founder Ray G. Syverson began offering tile installation services in the SD area. By the mid 1940s, his company grew to be the largest tile contractor between Minneapolis, MN and Omaha, NE. 85 years later, Syverson Tile & Stone has evolved into one of the largest tile distributors in the region. Today, Ray’s grandsons Steve and Dave Syverson, continue the tradition of good craftsmanship and dedicated service.
The Sioux Falls, SD location will celebrate this prestigious anniversary on July 25th and Fargo, ND location will celebrate on July 26th. American Wonder Porcelain is delighted to be a part of these celebrations and representatives will attend the festivities.
Lebanon, TN (April 11, 2017) – Commissioner Bob Rolfe, of the TN Department of Economic and Community Development, Mayor Bernie Ash, of the City of Lebanon, and Michael Kephart, President, of Wonder Porcelain LLC, were among those on hand to ceremonially open the new American Wonder Porcelain plant today, Tuesday, April 11th in Lebanon, TN. The future onsite showroom in the state-of-the-art manufacturing complex hosted the group of approximately 100 guests consisting of local officials, plant employees and foreign investors.
Michael Kephart, President of Wonder Porcelain LLC, began the event by thanking the State of TN, Governor Bill Haslam (not in attendance), Mayor Bernie Ash as well as the Joint Economic and Community Development Board of Wilson County, who had several representatives at the event.
Commissioner Bob Rolfe spoke next, focusing on the job opportunities, 200+ positions, the new facility will bring to the area.
Jianping Huang, a primary investor in Wonder Porcelain LLC, then spoke briefly about the importance of the new plant and the excitement surrounding today’s opening. Bill Griese, Director of Standards Development and Sustainability Initiatives for the Tile Council of North America, TCNA, was on hand to speak to the continued growth of the tile industry in the US and the importance of manufacturing on US soil.
The event concluded with a ribbon cutting by Commissioner Bob Rolfe, Michael Kephart and Jianping Huang.
The 500,000-square foot plant will be fully operational in June and will allow Wonder Porcelain LLC to introduce advanced manufacturing capabilities and proprietary production processes, not previously utilized in domestic tile production. The facility will put Lebanon, TN, on the map as an area for innovation in the tile industry. It will have the capability to produce glazed porcelain, technical color body, rectified, polished, and large format tile. All equipment in the plant reflects the latest technology.
Wonder Porcelain LLC worked with TN-based T.W. Frierson Contractor, Inc. on the construction of the plant. An additional 200,000 square foot warehouse and adjacent office complex complete the facility.
All products produced in the new plant will be certified by the Porcelain Tile Certification Agency and will be tested by the Tile Council of North America to ensure they meet or exceed defined standards in all performance categories.
Wonder Porcelain, a member of the Tile Council of North America (TCNA), was excited to participate in the donation of one-of-a-kind tiled doghouses to the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando at this year’s Coverings 2017 trade show in Orlando, FL. The Wonder Porcelain designed doghouse, along with those from other tile industry companies and cute dogs from the Pet Alliance, were at the TCNA Art Tile Courtyard area of the trade show where a donation ceremony was held on Thursday, April 6th.
Eric Astrachan, TCNA Executive Director, had this to say about the dog house program, “Each year at Coverings TCNA’s members selflessly give back to the local community through countless hours of designing and creating timeless works of art such as these doghouses. This year we are pleased to donate these incredible examples of the versatility and beauty of tile to the Pet Alliance to assist them in their mission to help Orlando-area pets. We are very happy to contribute with our members to such a worthy cause.”
In advance of the show, TCNA sent plain, wood dog houses to participants who then designed and tiled the houses with their products. The finished dog houses were unique and had styles ranging from glamorous to rustic. The Pet Alliance will auction off the dog houses at their annual fund raising event, Furball 2017.
